One diner at a Newport Beach restaurant used a recent $133.54 tab to express his disdain for his server's line of work by leaving a 1% tip and a note: "GET A REAL JOB."

According to the anonymous blogger of a just-launched site called Future Ex-Banker, his boss at a very large corporate bank hates hearing about the "99%" represented by the Occupy movement and shows his hatred by tipping a measly 1%. Continue

Restaurant visits have fallen across the country since the recession, and the bulk of those lost customers – 87% – abandoned independent eateries.

Americans ate out 60.6 billion times last year, according to research company the NPD Group. That’s down from 62.7 billion in 2008 and flat compared to 2010.

Of the 2.1 billion visits lost, 2 billion would have been to independent establishments. Continue

 
59 New Firehouse Subs coming to Michigan Print

Firehouse Subs, a national chain with almost 500 restaurants in 29 states, has opened its first Michigan location in Brighton’s Brookside Mall with plans for more 58 others throughout Michigan over the next 10 years.

The chain’s name is based on the founders’ 200-year family history of fire-fighting. The Brighton restaurant carries out the theme with firehouse memorabilia and a hand-painted mural depicting the Brighton Area Fire Department extinguishing a barn fire. Read more
