Paula Deen's case DISMISSED! |
|
Monday, 12 August 2013 22:55 |
CNN.com - A federal judge has dismissed the racial discrimination claims in a lawsuit filed by a former employee against Paula Deen, the celebrity chef's representative said Monday.
The former employee can't claim to be a victim of racial discrimination targeting African-American workers because she is white, U.S. District Judge William T. Moore Jr. ruled. "At best, plaintiff is an accidental victim of the alleged racial discrimination," Moore wrote.
Other aspects of the lawsuit, including sexual harassment and abusive treatment, are still pending. Continue |
What happens when Liquor Licenses become scarce! |
|
Monday, 12 August 2013 22:50 |
SLtrib.com - Last year liquor licenses were in such short supply that Buffalo Wild Wings stopped construction on its Layton location until the chain could get a liquor permit.
Since then, lawmakers have protected restaurant chains against license shortages by creating master liquor permits, which became available in May. Although no chains have applied for a master license yet, officials are confident these licenses will be in demand when there’s another chronic license shortage.
"It’s a matter of education," said Melva Sine, president of the Utah Restaurant Association. "Anytime there’s something new it takes time to take hold. Once people realize master licenses are out there, they’ll want to know more about the advantages of these types of licenses, but right now, we’ve gotten no calls." Continue |

4 Reasons Why Small Businesses Should Be Thinking
“Mobile First”
|
A mostly mobile world has become inevitable. Mobile search and activity will surpass desktop usage in the very near future, and 66% of users simply won’t return to a website if it gives them trouble on their mobile device. For these reasons, it has become critical for businesses to implement appropriate mobile strategies. But simple implementation has already become the norm! Now, in order to truly maximize the opportunities present, prepare for future changes, and earn a competitive advantage, small businesses would be well advised to be thinking “mobile first.” That is, not just reluctant publication of an app or mobile site, but enthusiastic embracing of mobile technology into core operations.
|
Here’s why: 1. It will focus you Mobile leaves very little room for fluff. In the process of designing your mobile website and app, writing short notifications and offers, and participating in short-length social media, you will focus on what matters most to your business. Your most important offerings will naturally be front-and-center in your thinking, and unimportant distractions will fade. 2. You can make mistakes while it is still relatively early It’s no longer correct to say that mobile is in an “early” stage of development, but it is still relatively early in terms of total cultural and industry saturation. There is still time to experiment, make mistakes, and correct them. Soon, this window will be closing, and users will have no tolerance for mobile experiences that are not totally polished. The analogous experience would be to go to an outdated website. Now that beautiful websites have become the norm, are you still able to take a business seriously if the website doesn’t look professional? Many consumers are not. Mobile will soon be the same way, if it isn’t already. 3. It can boost innovation Testing out new business strategies will open up your thinking and invigorate your business. Many things are possible with mobile technology, and by getting into the game, you may find new ways to connect with customers, improve your offerings, and increase revenue. In a way, a mobile first approach can help your business stay “young” in its attitude toward community interaction. 4. You can get ahead of the competition Mobile strategies are a must, but many small business owners still lag behind. By taking charge and adopting a mobile first approach, you can gain a significant edge over your competition. Since users are clamoring for mobile interaction, they will favor the business that gives it to them. Be the first mover, and you can get a big jump on the competition. By the time competitors decide to participate, you’ll already be miles ahead.Click here to get started: www.buildourappnow.com

Your Pie gets $1 Million plus to fuel expansion! |
|
Sunday, 11 August 2013 12:53 |
Onlineathens.com - Atlanta-based investment firm Georgia Oak Partners recently dumped a million-plus dollars into Athens-based custom pizza franchise Your Pie, boosting expectations that the rapidly-growing company will operate 100 restaurants in the next three years.
David Barr, director for Georgia Oak Partners, said the investment was in the seven-digits and declined to elaborate. He said his company purchased the minority stake because it liked the idea of fast and casual custom pizzas. He noted the growth of similar fast-casual restaurants, such as Chipotle and Panera Bread, and said Your Pie’s concept similarly resonates with customers, predicting that it will eventually break out of the Southeast. Man Jailed for Dining & Dashing After Restaurant Facebook-Shames Him |

Friday, 09 August 2013 20:46 |
Gawker.com - Last week, The Brewer's Cabinet, a restaurant in Reno, Nevada, filed a police report after a patron left without paying his bill. Not satisfied with the police report, the restaurant also posted a picture of the man to the company's Facebook page, hoping to warn other local businesses. The post went viral, gathering hundreds of shares and likes, and at least three other local restaurants confirmed that the same man owed them money.
From the post:
ATTN RENO:
If you know, or see, this dude, please call RENO POLICE DEPT at 334-2121 immediately, and then remind him that his tab at The Brewer's Cabinet is still waiting to be paid.... and his tab at Campo.... and his tab at Imperial.... and his tab at Chapel... and his tab at many other fine establishments. And, while you're at it, you could tell him that visiting restaurants/bars with your friends, running up a huge bill, roughing up servers and then bailing is pretty uncool... pathetic, really. Get a life, man. Continue
