Florida Today - Patrons of the Lucky Pelican Internet Cafe in Suntree say they don’t want anyone taking away the fun. They come to the strip shopping center outlet off Wickham Road — some occasionally, others every day — for a bit of entertainment and camaraderie, as they vie for cash and other prizes.
But state and local officials, spurred by the proliferation of so-called “Internet cafes” in Florida, are considering increased regulation. The scrutiny intensified last week, when Internet cafes with links to the St. Augustine-based Allied Veterans of the World charity were the focus of raids in Florida and five other states. Continue |

Nrn.com - Subway has earned the No. 1 spot in Vivaldi Partners’ annual “Social Currency Impact Ranking,” which includes 60 of the largest advertisers in the world, from retailers to restaurants.
New York-based consulting firm Vivaldi Partners defines its “Social Currency” metric as a measurement of the extent to which people involve brands in their everyday social media activities, like sharing and posting messages, images and video. More than 5,000 people in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany were surveyed on their perceptions of more than 60 brands for this study. Continue |

And you can play Farmville (or Castleville or Whateverville) for hours on end. And then there's Twitter, which is like the Attention Deficit Disorder kid in the social media classroom. Millions of tweets blasting by, all begging for your attention. Then there's LinkedIn. Then there's Google+.

Sacbee.com - Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say a man suspected of shooting his estranged wife to death outside her workplace has turned himself in.
A sheriff's statement says 29-year-old Arthur Andrade of Tustin surrendered at the Whittier Police Department at 1 a.m. Sunday. He is being held on $1 million bail. Continue

Restaurant News - The restaurant industry suffered its worst same-store sales decline in three years, partly due to the effects of the payroll tax on consumers, according to the latest NRN-MillerPulse survey.
MillerPulse, an operator survey exclusive to Nation’s Restaurant News, questioned operators from 49 restaurants in March regarding February sales, profit trends, performance and outlook. Respondents included operators from all regions of the country that represent the quick-service, casual-dining, fine-dining and fast-casual segments. A restaurant server was confronted with the woman accused of stealing her identity.
Lakewood police say we can all learn a lesson from what happened next. Brianna Priddy's wallet was stolen on Feb. 13 during a night out with friends.
On Feb. 25, a customer came to the Applebee's on the 10600 block of West Colfax in Lakewood where Priddy works as a server. At first, they looked like any other customers but Priddy soon learned who they really were.
"Four people come in, walk in, sit down. They start ordering drinks. This girl hands me my ID as a fake ID," Priddy said. Continue |

Washington, DC (RestaurantNews.com) The National Restaurant Association released the following statement about the decision by a New York state judge who today struck down the New York City beverage ban.
The ruling by State Supreme Court Justice Milton Tingling in Manhattan came down just one day before the ban was supposed to take effect. Tingling said he found the ban to be arbitrary and capricious.Continue |
