The News Herald— For many Panama City Beach restaurant owners, staying open year-round is simply not worth it.

Yonnie Patronis, owner of Capt. Anderson’s Restaurant, said closing for the winter months costs less than trying to keep the restaurant open. Capt. Anderson’s closed for the season Nov. 10 and will reopen Jan. 24. Patronis said during the late fall months before the seasonal closure, the restaurant staff serves barely 20 percent of the customers they do in the summer months. Continue

Marco's Pizza area franchise owner Kirk Luchman, a former basketball player with the Jacksonville Baracudas, said Wednesday he wants to open 34 stores over the next five-10 years in North Florida and into South Georgia.

 Luchman, the operating partner in the area franchise, said the first area Marco's Pizza in Southwest Jacksonville should open the second week of January and he is negotiating a second site.Continue

Many chefs and restaurant owners say they’re increasingly feeling victimized by the growing power of online reviews –some of which they claim to be exaggerated or overblown.

Andrew Zimmern -- host of the Travel Channel’s “Bizarre Foods” -- this week went on an epic rant on his podcast Go Fork Yourself, saying the review site “essentially gives a tremendous forum for a bunch of uninformed morons to take down restaurants.”
