West Palm Beach, FL – The Butcher Shop Beer Garden & Grill
Father and son Igor and Fred Niznik will open their second unit of the combined butcher shop and restaurant in early fall at 209 6th. Street.  The menu will feature their eastern European roots with Russian, German and Czech cuisine and craft beers.  Black Angus beef steaks, homemade sausage and burgers will be mainstays on the menu.

West Hartford, CT – Goldberg’s Gourmet
You’ll think you stepped into a turn of the century lower east side NYC deli when you enter the new concept to open at 38-44 Isham Road later this year.  While the bagels and schmear may be familiar some of the new age menu items will make this a break-out concept such as Korean Steak, Egg & Cheese and the Chipotle Chicken breakfast bagels.

Chicago, IL – Income Tax Bar
Looking at a hopeful summer opening at 5959 N. Broadway this casual concept will feature full bar service with a focus on the “wine bar” offerings in a less-than-sommelier atmosphere catering to non-enthusiast comfort levels.  There will be two bars, three dining areas offering food and wine pairings, high-end cocktails and lesser-known spirits.

San Francisco, CA – Scullery
Veteran restaurateurs Sharon and Jason Findley will open their new breakfast and lunch operation by May 15 at 687 Geary Street.  They will bring some of their own “Brit” culture to the petite space offering coffee, tea juices and a British menu mainstay Welsh Rarebit along with a menu of breakfast and lunch sandwiches served in a casual atmosphere.

Portland, OR – Headwaters at the Heathman
Owner Vitaly Paley along with Executive Chef Ken Norris plan to open their casual atmosphere, upscale menu concept by early fall at 1001 SW Broadway inside the Heathman Hotel.  The menu focus will be “seafood heavy” with a raw bar; however, for the land lubbers the rotisserie will offer suckling lamb and porchetta with crab.

Columbus, OH – Pit BBQ Grill
Partners Chimdi Chekwa and Bryant Browning have more in common than a restaurant, they played football together at OSU.  The pair plan a late summer opening at 3545 Cleveland Avenue in what they hope will be the first in a chain of barbecue units.  The menu is focused on backyard barbecues with wood-fired high quality meats and sweet sauces.

Another Florida Iconic restaurant bites the dust! Print
Wednesday, 21 October 2015 12:30

Florida Today - COCOA BEACH — The Lobster Shanty, an iconic waterfront restaurant south of Cocoa Beach, is being sold and will become a Squid Lips opening early next year.

Buzz Underill, owner of two Squid Lips — one in Melbourne and one in Sebastian — confirmed the restaurant purchase Monday. The deal is expected to close Tuesday. The Lobster Shanty served its last meals Sunday. Chefs International, the New Jersey company that operated the Lobster Shanty, confirmed its closing and sale Monday.

"They approached us and we thought it would be a perfect opportunity, and so did they," Underill said, adding talks about selling the Lobster Shanty began in June. The restaurant should reopen as Squid Lips sometime in January and Underill said it will be very similar to the Melbourne operation, with an outside bar, a man-made beach area and places for boats to dock. The restaurant will employ between 75 to 100 people, he said, and several of those likely will be former Lobster Shanty staff. Continue
