|
Wednesday, 21 October 2015 12:30 |
Florida Today - COCOA BEACH — The Lobster Shanty, an iconic waterfront restaurant south of Cocoa Beach, is being sold and will become a Squid Lips opening early next year.
Buzz Underill, owner of two Squid Lips — one in Melbourne and one in Sebastian — confirmed the restaurant purchase Monday. The deal is expected to close Tuesday. The Lobster Shanty served its last meals Sunday. Chefs International, the New Jersey company that operated the Lobster Shanty, confirmed its closing and sale Monday.
"They approached us and we thought it would be a perfect opportunity, and so did they," Underill said, adding talks about selling the Lobster Shanty began in June. The restaurant should reopen as Squid Lips sometime in January and Underill said it will be very similar to the Melbourne operation, with an outside bar, a man-made beach area and places for boats to dock. The restaurant will employ between 75 to 100 people, he said, and several of those likely will be former Lobster Shanty staff. Continue
