Upstart restaurant brands like Toppers Pizza and Lenny’s Sub Shops have to compete against industry giants like Pizza Hut and Subway for sales, and while they acknowledge that they can’t match their rivals’ size, they can punch above their weight in terms of marketing through social media.

Del Taco 20 store expansion to invade North Florida! Print

National restaurant chain Del Taco announced Tuesday it has partnered with Dothan company Larry Blumberg and Associates for a 20-unit expansion of the chain.

The partnership is expected to result in a Dothan location in early 2013.
In addition to the Dothan location, 19 other Del Tacos will be built in Alabama and Northern Florida as a result of the partnership. Other locations include Huntsville, Montgomery, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. Florida locations include Tallahassee and Jacksonville.

Papa Johns Renews new restaurant incentives! Print

Papa John’s International Inc. has renewed its Development Incentive Program for 2013, continuing the same offers to domestic franchisees who open new restaurants before the end of next year.

The package of incentives is available to franchisees who sign agreements for new units between now and Nov. 30, 2013, and who open new locations by Dec. 29, 2013.

Panda Express opening Stand Alone units! Print

The 2,000-square-foot Bright and Fresh prototype opened in Balch Springs, Texas, a Dallas suburb, offering new architecture, décor and signage from previous units. A second test design, called Blocks of Flavor, will open later this fall in Memphis, Tenn., offering 2,400 square feet and 55 seats, a few more than the Balch Springs’ seating of 40 to 45.

Restaurant built over state land WITHOUT permit! Print

Dewey Destin’s seafood restaurant, sitting on a dock stretching into Choctawhatchee Bay off the Panhandle town of Destin, was built over state-owned submerged land without getting a permit, the state claims. A proposed settlement for the dispute would likely set a precedent for the development of the rest of the state’s scenic waterfront. Popular Dewey Destin's Seafood Restaurant was supposedly built over water owned by Florida. Surprisingly the lease was signed in  1985 with the stipulation that a restaurant could NOT be built there. As if it isn't enough for a restaurant to battle the competition now Burger King is facing a fight over an alleged incident involving and employee and her belief she can wear her own uniform siting religious beliefs.
